(Engineering Inspector I)
ST. CHARLES COUNTY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
Starting Salary: $ 38,689 per year
This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position which includes a full range of benefits including Paid Time Off, Extended Medical Leave, Holidays, Employee health, dental, life, disability, retirement and tuition assistance programs.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Inspects installation of new storm sewer systems, roadway subgrades, asphalt and concrete paving, storm water detention/retention, pavement joint cleaning and sealing, rip-rap installations, water jetting or compaction of trench backfill, and other incidental construction associated with new subdivision development and maintenance contracts for compliance with plans and specifications. Inspects and approves or rejects concrete and/or asphalt street replacements. Tests plastic concrete for proper characteristics regarding slump, air content, etc. Checks streets by core drilling for proper material depth. Determines approval, penalty, or replacement. Compiles construction deficiency lists. Investigates complaints regarding public right-of-way conditions. Discusses situations with involved parties and reports results to supervisor. Inspects work done on public right-of-way for compliance with Special Use Permit conditions. Meets with residents to address concerns. Operates heavy equipment and assists in snow and ice removal from roadways when needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent, three to five years road or public works construction/maintenance experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of St. Charles County highway standards and specifications and the Unified Development Ordinance in St. Charles County. A valid class B commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement required.
